WHAT IT DOES

Mets tes baskets by ELA functions as a step-counting application. Users can track their steps either via the phone's integrated pedometer or by syncing with the Google Fit app.

This tool supports participation in a solidarity campaign aimed at raising awareness—and potentially funds—for children affected by ELA. It enables users to record their individual steps as well as monitor collective progress within a group, enhancing motivation through shared effort. The core concept is straightforward: take as many steps as possible to benefit children who are no longer able to walk. The application also facilitates sharing your engagement on social networks and offers the option to convert your steps into donations to support ELA’s initiatives.

The association allocates these funds to support families and advance research, relying on your generosity. Every step counts for the children of ELA!

EUROPEAN LEUKODYSTROPHIES ASSOCIATION

Established in 1992, the European Leukodystrophies Association unites families impacted by leukodystrophies, which are degenerative diseases affecting the myelin sheath of the nervous system and leading to significant disabilities. It is estimated that each week in Europe, 20 to 40 children are born with these conditions.

MAIN OBJECTIVES OF ELA:

SUPPORT AND ASSISTANCE FOR AFFECTED FAMILIES

• Human support
  Through its Family Support Unit, staffed by social workers and a psychologist, ELA offers daily assistance and guidance to patients and their families.
• Financial assistance
  Alongside state aid, ELA provides funding for modifications related to disability—such as bathroom installations or vehicle adaptations—as well as technical aids including wheelchairs, shower trolleys, and lifting seats.
• Respite care support
  ELA actively develops partnerships and solutions to offer respite care options. Since 1994, the organization has hosted annual weekends at Center Parcs for member families—a valuable opportunity for sharing experiences, exchanging ideas, and relaxing together.

ADVANCING MEDICAL RESEARCH

ELA aims to facilitate understanding of leukodystrophies through research—particularly by discovering biomarkers and developing new treatments. It is recognized as the leading funder of leukodystrophy research worldwide, having financed over 520 projects with a total investment exceeding 44 million euros. ELA operates across seven European countries: Germany, Belgium, Spain, France, Italy, Luxembourg, and Switzerland.
